With sky-rocketing food prices, how many of you have your own fruit orchard and vegetable gardens? We've got numerous fruit trees - 5 diffferent apple varieties, apricot, nectarine, plumcot, blood plum, cherry, pear, lemon, mandarine & orange . . . we had an excellent apple crop this last season and a huge proportion of it is stewed up and in the freezer or my preserving jars. Whilst we've got a vegetable garden, I must admit I've been very slack with keeping it weed free since before Christmas . . . well - not so now . . . I'm pleased to say it's looking a whole lot healthier these days AND has carrots, parsley, beetroot, spring onions, broccoli, cabbage and snow peas planted in it! Now I just need to keep the weeds at bay!

I'd love to get into homegrown veggies and fruit, but since we are moving within the next 12 months, I don't think i'll do it here. But when we move i definitely plan on growing my own veggies and also growing some fruit trees. I think if you can it is definitely worth it...both for health, taste and the hip pocket. I grew up on a dairy farm and we had a HUGE veggie garden, grew everything from broccoli to broad beans (yuck!) to strawberries to corn. Home grown taste compares to nothing else.

ditto here too Shirl we always had a vege garden at home but here in Melbourne different kettle. I have just bought some rather large pots and am planning a herb garden, Bryce is into cooking these days and prefers (of course) fresh herbs which can be soo expensive in the supermarket Cheers Jan
